Associate Training Program

The San Francisco School of Massage is pleased to offer – in conjunction with the Society of Ortho-Bionomy International® – the Ortho-Bionomy Associaite Training Program.

Why Ortho-Bionomy?

Ortho-Bionomy can change the dynamic of your services, from trying to “fix” your clients to instead supporting and facilitating their healing. In Ortho-Bionomy, clients actively participate in their own recovery and healing. Practitioners perform a gentle, non-invasive form of body therapy that works with chronic stress, injuries and pains or problems associated with postural and structural imbalances. These gentle positions, combined with self care techniques, facilitate changes in the client’s stress and pain patterns. With Ortho-Bionomy, we recognize the client’s pattern, find the position of comfort, exaggerate the position of comfort, and in turn support the body’s self-correcting reflexes.

Using Ortho-Bionomy can increase the scope of your practice and draw a wider client base. Because there are no contraindications to Ortho-Bionomy, you can use this modality with clients for whom massage is contra-indicated. Additionally, as Ortho-Bionomy sessions can be done with clothing on, you can draw clients who have trauma and/or body issues and are more comfortable clothed.

Isometrics (TBD)

Certain holding patterns or contractions need more of an ‘active’ approach in order to release them. The client may need to exert themselves to fully feel their patterns or contractions and release them. This is where the ISOMETRICS Ortho-Bionomy® Freedom Through Resistance Class comes in.

Ethics & Emotional Issues

We will journey into the experiential discovery of how being clear within our body, emotions, and energy allows our clients to have deeper releases and lets us be better practitioners.
You Will Learn To:

  • Establish and maintain your own boundaries and grounding with appropriate flexibility.
  • Practice where in our body we feel our center and core, how we can get thrown off center, and how to return to center in a more strong and solid place with integrity and respect.
  • Know your skills, limitations, and blind spots.
  • Embody the work in and out of session.
  • Develop a response within yourself that maintains your core philosophy.
